Energy In School

YES! (Youth Energy Summit) empowers youth to partner with their community to create economic and environmental vitality through hands-on learning and team-based projects.

YES! provides a unique opportunity for students to learn by engaging directly in community efforts that lead to dramatic demonstrations of renewable energy technology and conservation practices and exposes them to how science is applied in real life.

Here is a testimonial about how the YES Initiative is impacting the lives of the students in the program!  Congratulations on receiving this well deserved award!

Received May 23, 2013:

  • I am pleased to share with you that YES! won the Minnesota Environmental Initiative Award last night for the Environmental Education category.  We were fortunate to have 3 coaches and 5 students there, along with the YES! coordinators, to share the experience. This is the second time YES! has won this award since its inception in 2007.  We were told last night that a program has never won twice!
  • Last night, it was amazing to have Kim, a student from St. Cloud Apollo, share with everyone how the program has changed her and helped her grow as an individual.  She even mentioned that YES! has helped her decide on pursuing a career as an Industrial Engineer so she can help a company in the future use more environmentally friendly practices!  I was able to share the story of a mother who told me last week that her son wouldn’t be in school if it weren’t for YES!.  YES! is truly our hope for future change, for engaging students in rural communities, and for preparing them for an amazing future!
  • A written note I received from the Mankato coach says it all:  ““In 20 years of high school teaching, I can’t identify a more meaningful program that really champions the ideas of students while equipping them to create meaningful change!”  Eric Koser

It is a great day!  I just had to share this with all of you as each of you have contributed to the success of YES! in some way over the years!  So THANK YOU to each of you for your support!
