Angela Watkins owned a car wash on E. Bridge Street several years ago. She eventually decided the space would be better served as office space, so she turned three of the car wash bays into offices. Then she and her friend Chelsey Nielsen made a decision: why not try putting a business of their own into one of the new spaces? The next question — what sort of business to open — solved itself when Nielsen and Watkins discovered they were both having trouble finding a tanning salon that was open with they finished work at their other jobs. Ultimate Glo Tanning opened soon afterward. The salon opened with two tanning beds, while Nielsen and Watkins have recently become certified to do spray tanning. “We were hesitant about the spray tanning because many people don’t know what it is, but it’s really taken off for us. It’s an instant fix of tan,” said Nielsen. “It’s an all-cosmetic spray that lasts seven to 10 days,” explained Watkins. “This year the state has banned anyone under 18 from using the tanning beds, but kids under 18 can still get the spray tans. “Spray tans are perfect for occasions for weddings or graduations. Many people get them before going on vacations so they don’t show up looking so pale, and then let their natural tans develop while they’re there.” For more information, contact ultimateglotanning@gmail.com
