For years, Kathy Gag operated Falls Fitness in downtown Redwood Falls.

As a hobby, she repurposed old furniture in her garage and resold it.

“I’ve been painting old furniture as a pastime for the past for years, and really enjoyed it,” she said last week.

In fact, she enjoyed it so much, earlier this year she closed the fitness center to focus entirely on the furniture, and much more.

“I didn’t feel my own painted furniture would be enough,” she said, “so I contacted several Minnesota artists I was aware of, and asked if they would like to see through my space here.”

At the beginning of the year, Gag began remodeling the inside of her building on S. Washington Street.

“We cleared the walls down to the brick, and got the floors down to the hard wood,” she said.

Well, as long as the building was shaping up so nicely for displaying furniture, art, and antiques, why stop there?

“I decided to add a line of clothing, too,”?Gag said. “I like clothing with bling — graphics and gems. It kind of looks a bit like it’s from the late 1960s or early 70s — sort of fun and psychedelic.”

Gag also added several lines of handmade jewelry, all by Minnesota artists. Hats, candles, gadgets for keeping beer and wine cold, and a line of lotions and soap made from goat milk.

When she’s not visiting with customers in the front, Gag uses the rear part of the store as her workroom. If she’s not in front, odds are you’ll find her repainting an old chair or cupboard in back.

For the time being, Gag plans on being open the second full weekend of ever month and during holidays. For store hours, call 507-640-1545.   Click here for the complete article and photos of Kathy's shop!
