After years of planning by two counties, the Redwood / Renville Regional Solid Waste Authority (RRRSWA) began processing the household waste and recycling on Jan. 5.  That was the first day residents of both counties could set out their new plastic bins with the yellow lids for their recycling.  Recycling no longer needs to be sorted by type in Redwood and Renville Counties. Plastics, cardboard, paper, steel, tin, and glass can all be placed in the same bins for collection.  The recycling is taken from all over the county to the large facility on the western edge of Redwood Falls. There it is sorted by type, and bundled into bales weighing from 800-1,200 pounds.

From the RRRSWA site, the bales are trucked to various companies that buy them and reuse the materials.  The RRRSWA facility also has several new services for area residents.  Aluminum cans can be brought in during regular business hours. There, at the main office, the cans are weighed and purchased.  In addition, groups that set up fundraisers can have accounts created in their name at the RRRSWA. If you want the money you get from collecting aluminum cans to go to that group, just let the RRRSWA?staff know about it.

RRRSWA is also equipped with a new paper-shredding service. Area businesses that want their private papers shredded can contact RRRSWA for a secure bin.  The RRRSWA is also the new drop-off site for household waste collected by Redwood County trash collectors.   Click here to read the full article and see the photos inside the facility!
